American Football, the Australian Way

 

(Gosford, NSW) Gridiron Australia in partnership with Bring it On Sports and Central Coast Council will deliver the 2020 Gridiron Australia National Championships. 

For the first time in Australian gridiron (American football) history, the event will include both the Women’s and Men’s championships and bring over 600 athletes from around Australia together for a nine-day tournament. The Gridiron Australia National Championship will be the biggest festival of gridiron ever held in the country. The event will also serve as a selection camp for the IFAF Women’s World Cup which will be held in Finland in 2021. Gridiron Australia Chairman, Darrin Mitchell said he was excited about this historic event.

 “This will bring together our best players from across the country. It will give them all the unique opportunity to learn from each other, the best coaches we have in the country and how to be better footballers and share a common goal. We look forward to seeing all States represented at the National Championships to show the country American Football, the Australian Way.” Mr Mitchell said.

The event will take place in NSW at Central Coast Stadium 30 May – June 6 2020. Central Coast Council Mayor Lisa Matthews said it was the first time that Central Coast Stadium has seen Gridiron played at the stadium.

“Hosting the 2020 Gridiron Australia National Championships is a great coup for the region,” Mayor Matthews said. “We’re excited to bring this event to the Central Coast community and look forward to more events in our region in the future.”

Bring it on Sports and Tournament Director Elissa Manera said that she is pleased to be working with Gridiron Australia again.

“I look forward to working with Central Coast Stadium, Central Coast Council, the Gridiron Australia Board together with all the states, teams, volunteers and stakeholders to deliver a seamless 2020 National Championships.” Mrs Manera said, “It’s exciting to have the men’s and women’s teams competing at the same tournament and I am really hoping that the event will be an awesome experience for everyone involved.”

Gridiron Australia is the governing body of American football (gridiron) in Australia.  It is an approved sporting association under federal government regulations and is a member of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF). The organisation was formed in 1996 and has over 120 member clubs around Australia.
