After an extensive search and selection process the board of Gridiron Australia are excited to announce the appointment of John Roe to the position of Head Coach – Junior Outback for the upcoming 2020 Junior World Championships campaign.
As a six-year veteran of the Junior program, John is well equipped to carry on the great work of the existing head coach Luke Chapman and his staff. John has previously served on the Senior Outback coaching staff including the role of head Coach in 2003. More recently John was charged with the Head Coach role of the Queensland Sundevils in the recent AGL. His ability to run a strong, well structured program showed that he is ready for this next step.
Gridiron Australia would like to take this opportunity to thank Luke Chapman for his tireless work and effort over the last ten years in building the Junior Outback program into one that other programs envy and for providing opportunities for countless junior players that have gone on to gain the opportunity to pursue their gridiron careers overseas as well as graduating to the Senior program. Whilst Luke has built a large network of great coaches, we must also single out team manager Michael Kerr, the other half of the dynamic duo that has made the program what it is today.
John’s challenge now will be to assemble his coaching staff and start the process of preparing his players for the World Championship Oceania Qualifier against New Zealand later this year.
Once again, please join us in congratulating John on his appointment and provide him all the support he needs going forward.
